crowbelle's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A Thanksgiving Miracle "A Thanksgiving Miracle" Very early this morning, around 2:45 a.m., there was a huge explosion in neighboring Danvers, Mass. Miraculously, I did not wake up. Normally I'm a light sleeper, but I heard nothing. However, it has been reported that this blast was heard as far away as Maine and New Hampshire! On the route that I normally drive to my office each day, thru Danvers, MA, there is an area that is tightly populated, and there are businesses along with residential homes all packed in together. There was a company that manufactured inks, etc. that was located behind this neighborhood, which all bordered on a river that leads out to the sea. In the early morning hours today, something happened there that produced a huge explosion. The aerial views on TV from the news helicopters are unbelievable. It looks like a nuclear bomb went off there. Every single home is damaged, some more than others. My gas station where I fuel up quite ofen, was right there. A little Pizza place, which suffered a vehicle ramming into it a year or two ago, just had gotten all rebuilt and opened back up...now it is smoldering in ruins. The blast blew out windows for miles around. There is the New England Home for the Deaf that has about 60 residents in it, just across the river from this blast. Lots of folks who live there are both blind and deaf, and lots are elderly and have things such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease, so they have very special needs. All their windows were blown out, so they all had to be evacuated and are at the local high school at the moment, but they will be transported to a new facility later today that will have proper medical facilities for them. Governor Mitt Romney is there now. He just gave a news conference and updated us. You will all probably become much more familiar with Gov. Romney in the months to come since he is running for President of the U.S. He's down there with officials from every agency you can think of, going over the site and assessing what needs to be done. Romney said that this is like someone dropped a 2,000 pound bomb into a residential neighborhood in the middle of the night, and NO ONE WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED! There were 10-13 people taken to local hospitals for cuts and bruises, etc., but so far, they have accounted for everyone and no one was seriously hurt. Can you believe that? There was a bakery there that is in ruins now with about 9 employees who had just arrived to begin their day - probably to "make the doughnuts" - they felt the blast as it was right behind them, and they all got the heck out of there, just before the whole roof fell in! Same with all the residents in that neighborhood. No one has any doors or windows left in their homes... and the day before Thanksgiving! It's a true miracle no one was seriously hurt. There is no explaining it. It looks like bombed out Germany from the air on the TV. I can't go that way to work for the next week or so because they have it all closed down, so I will have to find a back way to work instead. Just thought I'd pass along this little news story to you all. It's not any worse than the terrible damage that ravaged the Carolinas earlier this week or the horrible fires out west that have been burning for so long. But it's our story, and we very rarely have anything this horrendous happen in our neck of the woods here, except for the occasional hurricane. Take care, each of you.
