Do You Know Where Your Dog Is?

It's 6:30 - Do You Know Where Your Dog Is?

So...it's like this. Our soon-to-be new dog, "Femalee/Emmalee", still lives in Tennessee. She won't be coming up here to live until the end of April. But she needs to be spayed first. We priced spaying up here and we were quoted $330 by a local vet (not "our" vet but another one - where Jazzy passed.) Actually, we haven't told "our" vet that Jazzy has passed...we keep forgetting to do that. It still hurts to say it out loud.

But Femalee/Emmalee will need to be spayed, and at $330., that's a sizeable chunk of do-re-mi. So I asked her current Dad, Dennis, if maybe he could have her spayed down there (things seem to be almost always less expensive down south than they are up north for some reason). Well, we were right...it'll only be about a third of what we would have had to pay! So the check is going out to him tomorrow to have Femalee/Emmalee spayed in a week or two...just after he takes her to show in one more dog show... one more for the road...

It's Paul's Dad's birthday tomororow. I think he's turning 85. I already gave him his pressie...a feather mattress cover - to ease his weary bones on his extra-firm mattress that he doesn't like anymore. He loves the feather mattress cover - it has a couple of inches of feathers inside it and is just cushy enough to make sleeping a lot nicer for him. Anyway, we gave it to him a couple of weeks ago, so there won't be any more pressies, but this weekend we (and that includes Paul, myself, Paul's sister and her husband) are all taking his Dad (and Mom) out to eat. Somewhere up north of here, I don't know where yet...we haven't been informed of that yet.

It's been so long since Paul and I have gone out to eat together, it will seem very strange. Probably a good thing, since once Femalee/Emmalee comes, that will seal it - no more going out ever!
It's bad enough that we haven't been to England since 2002...and don't know when on earth we'll get back there next. I've gone thru several really strong yearnings for England since then...one is ongoing currently. My friend Bill, who lives in Yorkshire, England, sends me pictures of my favourite spots, in fact, I still have a slew of them up on the computer, Bill, that I have not had the time to look at yet...mostly of Whitby and some Scarborough ones. (Thanks again, by the way). They are filling the hole of missing Yorkshire a tiny bit. But after this year is over, we really do have to start thinking about saving up to fly across that big pond again for another visit. It's time!

In the home improvement department at Crow Cottage, Paul has just about finished up the stairs project. Did I ever post a finished picture? Hmmm...I should make myself a note to do that.

Now he has embarked on his next project - tearing up a long thin strip of wall to wall carpeting along the stairs side of the dining room, and having new wood flooring laid down where that rug used to be (there is only plywood underneath) and having it stained to match the existing wood floor in the dining room. We want to have the floor in the living room done too, but that will have to wait for another time. One room at a time. They are going to call us back (the man came by yesterday to prepare an estimate) tomorrow to give us a date for the work to be done.

It never seems like our house is just "done" with stuff...there is always some unfinished project happening, somewhere.

After a whole winter of the dogs using the front lawn for their "business", you can imagine what our grass is going to look like in the spring! Some green with lots of big yellow spots all over it.

Does anyone know how to rejuvenate a lawn after dogs have peed on it all winter?

I'm taking suggestions...

It's snowing here again, but since it's felt like spring lately, it's not really amounting to anything but a dusting. I'm ready for it to be spring though...not summer, but spring is ok...

Cheers from the three of us...soon to be four again...
