She's Mad About Mountains

SHE'S MAD ABOUT MOUNTAINS

The World Wide Web is an incredible thing. I can remember back about 20-25 years when my ex-husband used to tell me it was the most wonderful thing to happen to us in a long, long time. At first, I paid no attention to his ramblings about it, but then it seemed to catch fire and pretty soon, even I was hooked up to the wonderful world of the internet.

It's a way of life now for so many of us. And it has changed our lives immeasurably.

For quite a few number of years, I have been visiting the web site of a woman who lives in Keswick, Cumbria, England. Her name is Ann Bowker. And she is mad about mountains. She lives in the Lake District of England, and she is a mountain climber. She is also a photographer of the finest quality, and she daily goes into "her" Lakeland mountains, with camera in tow, and offers us out here in Web-Land some of the most incredible views of her world. I wanted to share some of that with you here.

Ann's Mountain walk of August 3, 2006

Ann's Mountain walk of July 30, 2006

These are just a couple of her walks with photographs, her two most recent ones. She has been chronicalling the beauty and splendor of the Lakes for years now, and whenever I visit her pages, it almost takes my breath away.

We have been fortunate to have traveled these mountain roads during some of our visits to England. We've stayed in the Lake District a couple of times, and have been thru Keswick and all over that countryside, up and down, in and out, and have experienced this beauty first hand. Ann's photos are beautiful, indeed, but they are not nearly as breathtaking as being there in person, coming up in your little hired car at the top of one of these mountains, and peering over the ridge into the valley below, with one of the lakes glistening in the sun (or haze). I seem to remember that the word most uttered in our little car while driving thru the Lake District was "Wow!"

There were almost no other words after a while. That said it all.

As you can see from her links, there are other sites you can visit with similar photographs of England. I hope you enjoy these as much as I have over the years. Ann Bowker has been mountain climbing and recording her adventures for many years, all over the world, and you can experience them too if you go to some of her links on her page.

Have fun.

Our heat wave has broken. We are back to normal summertime temperatures here in New England now, and I'm hoping it stays this way for quite a while!

Cheers,

Bex
