crowbelle's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No News is Good News... No News is Good News... But we've got news. We went today for Paul's one week post-op check. To be brief, the pathology on his thyroid and nodule from last week showed papillary thyroid cancer. Shit. So he has to go back into the hospital and have the right thyroid lobe removed, as soon as possible. Next week or the following week, whenever the first available date is. He was not a happy camper when the doc told him that news! I was afraid he would jump the poor guy! He broke out in a total sweat. I asked every conceivable scenario question but it boils down to the fact that he needs to have his total thyroid removed, then go thru thryoid uptake scan, and then iodine injections to zap any errant thyroid cells loose in the rest of his body, and then visits to the endocrinologist, and then taking thyroid hormone replacement medication for the rest of his life. I know there are others in much more dire straits than Paul. Thyroid cancer is about the easiest one to cure, so they tell you, and the iodine treatments instead of chemo and radiation are a heckuva lot easier to do. But still... I will keep you filled in as we go along. Back to the drawing board, er the O.R. for him.
